Last week, three firms were given formal notices by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to suspend their illegal telecoms activities. The affected companies are Axon Integrated Services; Survenet Integrated Ltd and Strem Concepts.
Chukwuemeka Obi, senior director of the NCC’s monitoring and compliance department, said the decision is the result of two days of field investigations by the telecom regulator.
NCC concluded that Axon Integrated Services, licensed to sell mobile phones and private automatic switching equipment (PABX), has expanded its facilities and activities into segments that are not covered by its license. The company was granted a month to the company to regularize its operations, failure will attract severe penalties according to Obi.
Strem Concepts on the other hand reportedly still illegally operates Automated Vehicle Monitoring Services (AVTS). According to the NCC, the operator had already seen its offices sealed in the past for the same facts. This time, in addition to the closure of its offices, its equipment was confiscated.
Survenet, NCC said, was guilty of illegally installing towers and other services. Its offices have been sealed.
