I can already see Nigerian Netflix subscribers jumping for joy. We don’t do much of video streaming in this country and that’s mainly because of our relatively expensive and mostly unreliable internet service.
But I’m pretty sure internet woes like ours aren’t the sole reason why Netflix (according to LightReading) has chosen to make offline viewing possible. Why? Because taking that route is a perfectly logical way to stay competitive since competitors like Amazon already allow users download (a limited number of) videos, which they can watch at a more convenient time and or place without the need for an internet connection.
Netflix is however yet to give an official statement but considering that it’s CEO, Reed Hastings, earlier this year hinted at his company’s openness to bring us offline viewing, I think a dance of joy may just be in order. For those who care that is.
