NITDA to create 1.2 million jobs from telecenters

In line with its commitment to the creation of millions of jobs in the technology market, Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Four D Associates.

Speaking at the ceremony, Peter Jack, Director General of the agency said if adequately deployed and nurtured, telecenters can create 1.2 million jobs in two years in Nigeria.

According to Jack, most of the centres were not sustained due to lack of business orientation and infrastructure degradation. To ensure effective utilization of telecentres, he said the Central Bank of Nigeria, Bank of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency and other stakeholders have crucial roles to play.

Jack noted that countries like Brazil, Bangladesh and United States have good telecentres model which Nigerian could adopt

The NITDA Boss said the stakeholders’ meeting would come up with plans to train the technologists that would handle the management of the centres and equipped them with business management knowledge.

He said: “The new idea will be to train them on comparative business advantages their various communities have over others especially in the area of agriculture.”

Signing the MOU on behalf of Four D Associates, Mr. Okey Ikpe said that, the stakeholders meeting became imperative in order to aggregate individuals’ efforts and work in common alliance in making sure that the centres were sustained.
