Nokia is said to be working on a Windows RT tablet, and close sources have revealed to The Verge that the tablet, codenamed ‘Sirius’, will be launched very soon.
Nokia hasn’t released a consumer tablet since the company made the switch from Symbian devices to smartphones running Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.
Rumors about a Nokia Windows RT tablet have been flying around for months and now sources have confirmed that the device is indeed real. The tablet now referred to as Nokia Sirius is a 10.1-inch slate running on Windows RT, the version of Windows made to work with ARM chips.
The device will weighs a little over one pound, making it lighter than Apple’s full-sized tablet. The device’s display will boast a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution with great bright output for outdoor readability.
Other specifications of the Nokia Sirius are:
- 10.1-inch 1080 x 1920 pixel display with brightness boost for better outdoor visibility
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip
- 2GB of RAM
- 4G LTE connectivity
- 6-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera
- 10-hour battery life
- 32GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD cards
- microHDMI, microUSB ports
Nokia plans to unveil the tablet at an event in New York currently scheduled for September 26th. There are plans to offer keyboard accessory with its Nokia Sirius tablet which will include a battery to boost longevity. Other accessories that will come with the device will be unveiled during the launch.
