Google Enhances NotebookLM’s AI Note-Taking App

Google recently announced that it is adding a bunch of new features to NotebookLM’s AI-powered note-taking app, which can summarize, explain, and generate content from your documents. In a blog post, the tech giant stated that the Gemini 1.5 Pro-powered NotebookLM can now summarize YouTube videos and audio files. Google reports that users have been leveraging these “new source types” to gain key summaries of concepts and explore videos using inline citations linked to a video’s transcript. Additionally, for audio recordings, NotebookLM can find specific information, eliminating the need to listen to lengthy audio files.

Google’s AI-powered note-taking tool is also capable of analyzing and transforming class recordings, handwritten notes, and lecture slides into “comprehensive study guides” for easy access.

How to Summarize YouTube Videos and Audio Files

To summarize a YouTube video or analyze an audio file, simply open NotebookLM from your preferred browser and create a new notebook. You will have the option to either upload an audio file or paste a public YouTube video link. Once completed, click on the Generate an Audio Overview button and wait for a few seconds to a minute or two. Users can also share the AI-generated Audio Overview with others with a single tap.

Earlier this month, Google introduced the Audio Overview feature, which lets users turn their research notes into an AI-generated podcast. Now, the tech giant is adding a “share” button that generates a public link, allowing users to quickly share the podcast with others.
