Next month, Ntel will introduce a national roaming service in partnership with 9mobile and MTN Nigeria. Ernest Akinsola, CEO of Ntel, said the service will strategically position by leveraging on its partners’ networks.
What the announcement means is that Ntel will be able to route calls from its subscribers in areas where it does not have a network, using that of its partners.
The partnership would allow Ntel to benefit from the 2G and 3G network of its competitors to provide its subscribers with quality services.
Ntel only claims 72% network coverage in Lagos, 92% in Abuja and 60% in Port Harcourt although Ntel said it plans to deploy its own network in 20 states over the next 18 to 24 months.
Akinsola described the national roaming service as a solution that allows telecom operators to be efficient and reduce their costs related to network deployment.
“The money saved can be invested in developing innovative services for consumers,” he said.
