OpenAI’s New Image Generator Model Expands to Adobe, Figma, and More

OpenAI’s advanced image generator, known for producing Studio Ghibli-style art and surreal doll-like visuals, is now available to third-party apps via API. The company has officially launched its “gpt-image-1” model, giving developers and major creative platforms the ability to integrate next-gen image generation and editing into their own tools.

According to OpenAI, gpt-image-1 is a “natively multimodal model” that excels at generating images in diverse styles, accurately rendering text, following custom design prompts, and leveraging general world knowledge to meet practical creative needs.

Adobe and Figma Are First to Integrate

OpenAI has already partnered with creative industry leaders, including Adobe and Figma, to bring its AI-generated image capabilities directly to users:

  • Adobe will integrate the model into its Firefly and Express apps, offering creators the flexibility to generate visuals in various artistic styles. This move gives professionals, marketers, and casual users more power to experiment with creative concepts quickly and efficiently.
  • Figma is rolling out gpt-image-1 in Figma Design, enabling users to generate and edit images directly within the design platform. Designers can now adjust styles, remove or add objects, expand backgrounds, and more simply through prompts. This will accelerate brainstorming, prototyping, and visual iteration.

More Integrations Are on the Way

OpenAI has confirmed that other companies are also exploring the integration of the image generator into their platforms, including:

  • Canva
  • GoDaddy
  • Instacart

These partnerships highlight the model’s versatility across both creative and commercial use cases.

How to Access gpt-image-1

The gpt-image-1 model is currently available via the OpenAI Images API, and the company notes that support for the Responses API is coming soon. Developers and businesses interested in adding AI-generated visuals to their products can start experimenting with it immediately.

The launch of gpt-image-1 marks a major leap in making AI-powered design tools more accessible and practical for real-world applications. Whether you’re a designer looking to accelerate your workflow in Figma or a content creator experimenting in Adobe Express, OpenAI’s image generator is setting a new standard for fast, flexible, and visually stunning results.
