The long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2 is finally here. Beats has announced the $249 sequel to its popular fitness earbuds, first released in 2019. The new model retains the signature ear hook design but is now 20% lighter and significantly smaller. Its charging case is also 33% more compact and supports both USB-C and Qi wireless charging.
Heart-Rate Monitoring for Workouts
A standout feature of the Powerbeats Pro 2 is its heart-rate monitoring. Each earbud includes LED optical sensors that pulse over 100 times per second to measure blood flow. The collected data is processed for accuracy and sent to fitness apps like Nike Run Club, Peloton, and Apple Health.
On iOS, heart-rate tracking starts and stops automatically. However, Android users must activate it through the Beats app or by pressing and holding a button on either earbud. To improve accuracy, Beats now includes five ear tip sizes, including extra small and extra large.
Active Noise Cancellation and Apple H2 Chip
Unlike its predecessor, the Powerbeats Pro 2 features active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency mode, powered by Apple’s H2 chip. This addition brings more Apple ecosystem benefits, such as hands-free “Hey Siri” commands, personalized spatial audio, and Find My support.
While Android users can access some features via the Beats app, the Powerbeats Pro 2 lacks full Google integration. Unlike the Studio Buds Plus, it does not support Fast Pair or Find My Device.
Improved Battery Life and Durability
Battery life has seen a major upgrade. The Powerbeats Pro 2 offers up to 8 hours of playback with ANC enabled (10 hours without it). With the charging case, total battery life extends to 36 hours (or 45 with ANC off).
Despite retaining an IPX4 sweat and water resistance rating, Beats redesigned the earbud vents to improve protection against moisture. The ear hooks are also more durable, ensuring long-term reliability.
Price and Availability
The Powerbeats Pro 2 is available today for $249. It comes in four colors: orange, purple, gray, and black.
