Samsung and Apple might alongside some other players in the industry may be planning to get rid of the use of SIM cards in mobile phones.
According to a report by Financial Times, both companies in partnership with GSMA are working on implementing E-SIM. E-SIM will enable easy switching from one mobile operator to another or from one carrier to another as opposed to traditional SIM cards which are tied to a particular network.
While the E-SIM is not expected to immediately replace the traditional SIM cards in smartphones, tablets and other consumer devices, it may not take too long for it to materialize as more carriers and operators adopt and support the new initiative.
