According to a new research report by Strategy Analytics, Samsung is now the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. The Korean Electronics giant shipped 83.2 million smartphones worldwide in the first quarter of 2015 which represents 24 percent of the smartphone market share.

Coming in at second place is Apple with market share of 17.77 percent market share from the shipment of 61.2 million smartphones during the same quarter. Lenovo is on the third position with 18.8 million smartphone shipment at 5.4 percent market share while Huawei is in fourth place with a 5.0 percent market share from 17.3 million smartphone sales.

While Samsung’s shipment increased from the 74.5 million units achieved last quarter, the company still recorded a decline in year-over-year profits in Q1 2015.

According to Neil Mawston, executive director at Strategy Analytics  “Samsung continued to face challenges in Asia and elsewhere, but its global performance has stabilized sufficiently well this quarter to overtake Apple and recapture first position as the world’s largest smartphone vendor by volume,”.

However, with the high sale prediction for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung aims to target the growing middle – to low – end market with a streamlined lineup of devices that will launch later this year. Let’s just hope this decision will help the company in growing its profit over time
