Samsung Galaxy S22 Series spec sheet, price & comparison with S21

Finally!! Samsung has launched its anticipated Galaxy S22 series. The company announced the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra on Wednesday, February 9.

Pre-orders for all three models have begun. The price range varies, the S22 Ultra costs the most, setting buyers back $1,200 for the base 128GB model, while the S22 and S22 Plus starts at $800 and $1,000 respectively. Samsung announced that those who pre-order either the 128GB or 256GB model would get a free upgrade to the next storage tier.

Key features of the Galaxy S22

Display: Among the three models, Galaxy S22 is the smallest with a 6.1-inch FHD+ 1080p display and a 120Hz refresh rate. Galaxy S22+ is higher with a 6.6 -inch FHD+ display and a 120Hz refresh rate, and the S22 Ultra leads the pack with a pretty large 6.8-inch QHD+ 120Hz display. All three have variable refresh rates with the S22 and S22+ going between 10-120Hz while the S22 Ultra goes between 1-120Hz. This means that batteries of each model can be conserved using the appropriate refresh rate for what is displayed on the screen.

Camera: Both S22 and S22+ come with a 50-megapixel as the main camera which is also paired with a 10MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto. The 10MP sits in the front for both selfies and video calls. However, it was stated at the launch that those who want the best camera experience should go for the S22 Ultra. It comes with a 108MP main camera, with Samsung adding three additional cameras: One 10MP one for telephoto scenarios, another 10MP periscope lens with support for 10x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera. Samsung designed the camera to accommodate non-seasoned professionals by allowing A.I. features. This includes the now de rigueur portrait mode, a new video Auto framing tool, and more features that the company says will make your images look “professional.”

Software: The three models of Samsung Galaxy S22 will be powered by Android 12 and One UI 4. Contrary to what we already know of Samsung to update users’ phones rapidly, these models are distinguished further from Google’s experiences by offering a minimum of four operating system updates and five years of security upgrades.

When compared with S21

Several similarities, as well as differences, are spotted in the Galaxy S22 models when compared with the Galaxy S21 series.

Although ditching the plastic on the base of S21 and replacing it with glass, the S22 inherits a lot of the design stylings as the S21. S22 also comes with a wraparound camera bump and hole-punch display on the front.

For the camera, when compared to the S21’s 12MP sensors, the S22 camera models appear to be a significant improvement on paper. A 10MP camera sits in the front for selfies and video calls.

Samsung affirms that the Galaxy S22 series is its most durable phone yet. All three models sport Gorilla Glass Victus+, a model of the already pretty durable Gorilla Glass Victus that the S21 sports. This will be on the front and the back, to protect from accidental drops and scratches. Alongside that, the S22 and S22+ are equipped with what Samsung calls Armor Aluminum, its “strongest aluminum frame.”
