Is the real world parallel to the online world or an evolutionary stage? Is social media a means to while away time and reconnect or so much more? Is it ‘Just Twitter’ or the greatest tool of the century? These questions plague us: the relevance of the online world, the future of social media and what to do with the heightened connections that mark the Social Media Generation.
Samsung Electronics has tapped into this with her sponsorship of the Twitter Premier League (TPL). The Twitter Premier League is created by crowd sourcing – services, ideas and content were sourced from the online community.
Online participants were asked to create their online teams. Online teams were created via registration online, banners and online groups/forums were created for the event, funds were crowd sourced for event needs like renting an Astroturf pitch, purchase of club memorabilia and refreshment.
Now, online event will translate to experiential physical event at 3 p.m., Thursday – May 29, 2014 in a series of playoffs at Astro Turf, Meadow Hall Secondary School, Bashorun R.I. Okusanya Street, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. Attendance is free and all you have to do is register at bit.ly/thetpl2014
