SecureID, a company into the business of personalization and supply of smartcards has announced the launch of a new smartcard manufacturing plant in Lagos, Nigeria. This plant called Securecard manufacturing, is the first in Africa and has the capacity to produce about 200 Million cards in a year.
Before the completion of this manufacturing plant, the company operates a process called “Sub-assembly”.where it imports smartcards for various purpose and personalize them, it later stepped up its personalization by milling a cavity into the card body and embedding a chip unto the plastic. The completion of this plant will now enable SecureID locally manufacture polycarbonate cards like Payment cards, SIM cards, National ID cards of any specification and standard.
“On this journey, we have moved from being a card personalisation plant to a world-class plant for the local manufacture of the cards instead of depending on imports. Seventy-five percent of our raw materials have the potential to be produced locally and we have a project team engaged with industry experts in this area already.” said Kofo Akinkugbe the Managing Director of Secure ID Limited.
The plant has been tested by foreign test labs and certified by MasterCard, Visa and Verve for all kinds of smartcards production. It is also equipped with ultra modern facilities that can fuse unlimited security features onto every card.
In a world where data privacy has become a big deal, locally manufactured cards will definitely offer the advantage of securing citizens data…….at least to a great extent.
