Senegal’s first free coding school opens in Dakar

While there are numerous coding schools in Nigeria, a West African State of Senegal is just getting its first

Telecoms company,  Sonatel, has announced it has opened Sonatel Academy which is its first free coding school in Senegal. The facility which is located in the country’s capital city of Dakar is a result of a partnership with Simplon.co, a European specialist in digital training.

The operator said it decided to launch the academy because it is in line with commitment to the development of the digital ecosystem in Senegal.

The academy is open to young people aged 18 to 30 with a bachelor’s degree. Sonatel Academy is expected to prepare the country’s young demography for digitization. The first cohort will commence classes at the beginning of November 2017, and will be trained as a “Digital Referent” which are digital professionals capable of meeting the primary digital or computer-related needs of a structure.

At the end of the training, Sonatel said each beneficiary would have acquired skills “at the border of different trades like; web project manager, community leader, web project and web application manager, junior consultant in natural and paid referencing, UX / UI designer, web ergonomist, growth hacker, database manager, web integrator , digital mediator, webmaster,”

Applications began on 5 September via the Sonatel Academy website. The deadline is 5 October.
