So Cool! The next Range Rover will automatically detect potholes

Looks to me that Jaguar Land Rover trying to make driving easier and safe for motorists by developing technology that enables its cars to identify potholes. It doesn’t stop there as it goes further to share that data in real-time with road authorities and other vehicles.

With this feature, the Government can begin to prioritise road repairs. According to Jaguar Land Rover’s Global Connected Car Director Dr. Mike Bell, “While this gives our customers a more comfortable ride, we think there is a huge opportunity to turn the information from these vehicle sensors into ‘big data’ and share it for the benefit of other road users. This could help prevent billions of pounds of vehicle damage and make road repairs more effective”.

The company’s current technology works only when drivers actually drive over said potholes. However, it’s looking into ways to scan the road ahead of a vehicle to detect them, using a forward-facing stereo digital camera fitted on its Range Rover Evoque research vehicle. These data gathered can be stored in the cloud and shared with other cars via car-to-cat technology.

Should this technology be properly researched and made accurately functional, we believe that it would be ideal for the Nigerian roads. Who agrees?
