Spotify Premium users as well as free users have long had access to the shuffle and play buttons. But the platform intends to give more control of this feature (the big green button) to only its premium users. In a blogpost, the company announced that this feature will come in a future update.
Currently, the shuffle and play button plays songs on an album or playlist at random. This interferes with how the artist or owner of the album intends their listeners to enjoy the songs. Listeners might also intend to listen to their playlist or an album in a particular order which suits their taste. Spotify’s shuffle and play button does not serve most people that fall in any of these categories.
In the past, some artists have made complaints about this feature, prompting Spotify to find a fix. Now, a general fix is coming and will separate the function of the big green button. Possibly (once the update rolls out) there will be two buttons. One will be for streaming a playlist or album in a particular order and the other for shuffling it in random order. But there is a catch to this coming feature.
The music streaming platform makes it clear that only Spotify Premium users will be able to use this feature once available. Since this is a feature of high demand among artists and regular users of this platform, it might prompt some people to go premium. This will be another feature that only Spotify Premium users will have access to once available.
Spotify plans to give its subscribers more control of how they effortlessly interact with their music. This update will roll out to Android and iOS users in a coming update whose date is yet to be announced.
