Startup week, Lagos Startup

Startup Owners, Investors, Hear ye, hear ye! Lagos Startup Week is back

The second edition of Lagos Startup week is happening this September and it will span 5 days. The plan for this year’s edition is to take it notches higher than last year which was a pretty good outing, might I add. The focus however of Lagos Startup week is to further establish Africa and particularly Lagos in its rightful place in the world of technology, entrepreneurship and innovation so much it has been tagged: Be Inspired.Lagos Startup week, Startup week

It is a 5-day week-long event that will leave entrepreneurs fully fired up and inspired to take on new challenges and initiatives even in a difficult economy. In addition to the usual panel discussion, pitches and conference style talks, this year’s event features free masterclasses targeted at startups, product launches and a startup Exhibition. An interesting line up of speakers which include successful startup founders, local and international investors, industry giants and domain experts have been put together for the week.

You know, if I had a dime for every time someone said, SME’s and startups are drivers of the economy or Nigeria’s next cash cow, I’d be rich as an oil magnate. Other sectors are being recognized and invested upon, especially locally. Considering how many startup owners there appears to be, these Startups are not being positioning themselves well enough for impact and reward. Lagos startup week hopes to answer the ‘how’ of taking charge and advantage of the existing recession whilst ensuring viable start-ups are linked up to willing investors and mentors alike.

According to Olumide Olayinka, Founder of StartupLagos.

Oil prices are dropping but Africa is rising. The present Nigerian economy however tough presents tremendous opportunity for our local Small and medium enterprises (SME’s) to capitalise and establish leading positions in the market place.
