About six months after the release of the Camon X Pro, Chinese smartphone manufacturer, TECNO mobile announced another smartphone to the Camon series, the Camon 11 and Camon 11 Pro. The launch was preceded by campaigns that built up the expectations of the fans across Nigeria and Africa. However, going by antecedent, I was expecting the launch of the flagship product: the TECNO Phantom which is usually announced about the same time. Anyways, TECNO decided to skip the phantom and released the Camon. Why that happened would definitely come up in a separate piece.
The Camon series emphasis on the camera function more than anything else. The Camon 11 Pro also has 24MP front camera similar to the Camon X Pro but this time, according to TECNO mobile, AI technology has been added to the camera.
Upon opening the box, you find the following; the device, screen protector, SIM ejector pin, plastic case and the the warranty badge, specification manual and user manual. Beneath the box is the power adapter, charging cable and the ear piece.
The Camon 11 pro also has the notch display feature, which looks cool. However, the notch can be taken out from the settings to avoid that chopped out portion when watching videos.
The back of the device looks very attractive with the shiny polycarbonate material you will almost confuse for glass but is a fingerprint magnet. Ugh
Speaking of which, the fingerprint sensor is placed within reach – just behind the device and not too far from the flash and a bump housing the dual 16MP and 5MP dual camera. That bump os slightly distracting.
The Camon11 Pro has a 6.2-inches near edge to edge display with navigation keys on-screen. There is a compromise on the display of the Camon 11 Pro as it clocks at 720P HD, a downgrade from the predecessor that has a 1080P full HD display. While you may want more, Tecno restricts viewing videos at 720p resolution or less.
Overall, the design looks and feels premium and you will be tempted to carry the device without using the protective casing which obviously hides the beauty but also protects from scratch, hides the camera bulge, offers a grip hold and prevents excessive fingerprinting on the back of the device.
The camera is equipped with AI mode which will be tested and documented in the full review. The 24MP front camera on the TECNO Camon 11 Pro takes beautiful selfies under abundant light in the studio with much detail on the object in focus and of course, the images are blessed with excessive colours.
There are other modes like Beauty, Bokeh mode for taking portrait selfies, Panorama, Super pixel modes on the back camera.
You also have facial recognition as a security feature to complement the fingerprint sensor which can be used to unlock the device. Setting up these two was quick without hassle.
On the hardware department, you get a 6GB RAM which should offer a breeze usage and accommodate heavy gaming and multitasking. Internal storage is 64GB with an option to expand witha memory card. Battery is pegged at 3,750mAh, same with that of the predecessor. I expect that the battery should be able to last longer with the 720P resolution.
