The current pandemic has definitely influenced the way we work and shown us so many things about ourselves and things around us.
I bet one thing it has also revealed; due to our increased dependence on mobile devices to engage in social media platforms for business or leisure, is a heightened sense of appreciation for the workings on these devices or on a confrontational front, their shortcomings. From battery life, to screen sizes, display and designs, as well as image and sound quality.
Now to the Tecno Camon 15…
The Tecno Camon 15 series is the latest device in Tecno’s flagship lineup of its superb camera devices. And this comes in, right next to its Camon 12 series.
Design and Display
Out of the box, the device looks and feels sturdy with a glass front, plastic back and plastic frame and it is complimented nicely by the dark jade colour. I’d say probably what contributes to the sturdy build, is its weight as this device weighs 196g.
A run-through the sides show a bare top, in contrast to its speaker grill, USB port and headphone jack at the bottom, power button and volume rocker on one side and then sim card slot on the other side.
The build of this device, draws comparison to the Camon 12 Air in the sense that it features a punch hole camera at the top left corner of the screen but on this we have a screen size of 6.6″ LCD Display, as opposed to 6.55-inch on the Camon 12 Air.
Games and movies look relatively good, thanks to the 720 x 1600 resolution, and then I had no trouble using the phone outdoors in bright light, though I did have to increase the brightness to about 65%.
Camera
For the Camera, the Camon 15 comes with a 48MP quad rear camera and 16MP front camera which makes pictures look really good in the right conditions. Photos taken under natural light are well-exposed and detailed. But sometimes the details tend to look over-sharpened.
Selfies are great as well but may tend to look over-sharpened just as in the rear camera and lighting conditions.
Memory and Performance
For internal storage, you get 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and can be expanded to up to 256 GB. The device operates on Android 10 OS, HIOS 6.0, with a Mediatek Helio P22 chipset.
There’s the inclusion of WhatsApp mode which restricts all other apps from using your data except WhatsApp.
Battery
I think one thing we can all agree we need the most from devices during this pandemic is better battery life, yeah? Well, the Camon 15 comes with a bigger battery capacity of 5,000mAh, and in our tests, the device lasted 9 hours on moderate use. The device doesn’t come with fast charging, so it took about 3 hours to charge from 20% to 100%.
Yes, there’s still no USB Type C for anyone wondering if that would be the “major” upgrade on this flagship device-line up but hey it still makes for a good device, all the same.
