TECNO Camon X Pro first impressions

Tecno camon X pro

TECNO mobile recently announced the Camon X and Camon X Pro among three other entry level device. As expected, there was so much fanfare at the Eko Hotel and Suites where the event took place, it was the first global launch in Nigeria and in attendance were Journalist, tech enthusiast from across the continent and the ‘unpopular’ Nigerian minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu.

TECNO Camon series are known for the emphasis on the camera performance, most especially the front facing camera having being bumped up in megapixel on successive device in the series. The Camon X and XPro are also dubbed camera phones.

Upon sighting,  the TECNO Camon XPro is a sleek device with premium look and you’d maybe think it’s a better design than the Camon CX. There is something striking about the design, it painstakingly looks like the iPhone with the camera and flash compartment at the back of the device backwards.

Design is made of plastic and at first I was thinking there’d be wireless charging but this evidently reels the device back from the premium build quality, however, you will hardly know its plastic, all thanks to the golden accent wrapped round the edges still offers a disguised premium feel.  Holding the device feels very comfortable with its gentle curves at the edges and light weight, it is also hard to believe that the Camon Xpro display is 6-inch, it is well crafted with full HD display with tiny bezels offering more screen real estate.

Finger print scanner is well positioned at the back, same with the bumped camera compartment housing the camera and flash.  Power button, volume rocker and SIM card trays are all positioned on the right hand side. Interestingly, the SIM tray can accommodate two SIM cards and an SD card all at the same time.

The rear camera is pegged at 16MP with a quadruple flash which offers a very bright light on the subject when taking pictures. With this flash, you can hardly get a bad picture at night. The camera also has four modes: normal, beauty, panorama and super pixel modes

With so much emphasis on the selfie, the front camera has been  bumped up to 24MP which is expected to take amazing selfies. Every successive Camon device have had increase megapixel of the front camera and while some have really not been so impressive especially under low light, the Camon X pro is expected to perform excellently well. You also have the portrait mode on the front camera which gives the bokeh effect, blurring out the background on selfies.

There is a holy grail on the specs sheet of the Camon X pro and that is the Face ID, a biometric facial recognition feature which can be used to unlock screen and access app lock. This was set up quickly and worked just fine under adequate lighting conditions.

Internal storage is 64GB while the RAM is pegged at 4GB, this should be able to handle gaming and multitasking easily without any form of lag.

The Camon XPro seem to seem interesting so far, watch this space for the full review where I will share my experience with the phone taking core look at the workings of the Face ID, RAM and processor performance, display and battery.
