Before now, we did an unboxing of the PhonePad 3 and now we are going into the details of the device. Apart from the fact that the PhonePad 3 is a device that has been made for business, it also has some interesting features that we will be looking at in this review.
Design
No doubt, the PhonePad3 has a sleek look, with a fine finish. Although the device is big – measuring 188 mm in length, 98 mm in breadth, and 7.85 mm in thickness – it is still quite comfortable to hold.
It has an aluminium uni-body design, with small plastic sections at the top and bottom of the rear side. The headphone jack is at the top and the speaker grill is at the bottom, together with the USB port.
At the left side, we have the sim slot and memory card slot.
The power button, finger print sensor and volume rockers are found at the right side of the device.
Concerning the finger print sensor, I must say that it is not quick in recognizing finger prints probably because it has a small size. But the great thing about it is that it can be used to scroll through a webpage or a document.
Display
The device features a 7inch IPS display, with a resolution of 720×1280 which I think is just okay.
Performance, Memory
The device features a Quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MT8375W processor, with a processor speed of 1.3 GHz. It comes with just 2GB of RAM which I don’t think is good enough. Tecno says the PhonePad 3 is mainly for business people which I think is a great target. But I feel they should have placed more focus on the performance level since most business people do a lot with their devices. For me, 2GB of RAM doesn’t do justice.
Moving on, the phablet comes with 16GB of internal memory which is expandable with a micro SD card. I don’t know to what extent it can be expanded to, but I don’t think it would be less than 128GB.
Battery
Battery performance is quite good, not mind-blowing but just good. The battery is non-removable with a capacity of 4100mAh and a relatively fast charge. I think the battery would last for roughly 2 days for light users. On a continuous music and video playback, the device has a power saving mode which enables it to stay up to 48hrs.
Camera
It comes with a 13MP back facing camera with a dual true-tone flash and has an 85 degrees wide-angle lens. There is also a 5MP front facing camera with a similar 85 degrees wide-angle lens and front facing flash.
With the back camera, I got a good picture quality that looks kind of natural.
But the front camera didn’t do it quite right for me but if you are not particular about selfies and picture quality, then you’d have no problem with this device.
Business Apps
The PhonePad 3 comes with an already created folder on the home screen named “Biz Assistant”. This folder comes with some business-related apps like Camcard which helps users digitize and manage business cards, Camscanner which is used in scanning documents, WPS which helps to read and edit documents, TrustLook which is an antivirus, and some other apps.
Verdict
Concerning the main intent of the device, which is ‘Being a Business Assistant’, the device does it right as it comes with some preinstalled business apps and its design also makes it very suitable for business people. The camera doesn’t do justice for me, but for those that do not really pay so much attention on camera quality, this is just right for you. Generally, if you’re looking for something that is quite affordable with mid to high class features, then you’re good to go.
