TECNO mobile has silently released a new budget smartphone into the market, the TECNO W4 which obviously is the first TECNO device to run on the latest Android Marshmallow OS.
TECNO W4 is a well thought budget smartphone that meets the need of the increasing mobile users in Nigerians. The device is already on sale and it falls within the same price range with the new recently launched Infinix Hot 3.
Opening the box, you find the W4. Opening further you find the USB cable, power plug, earpiece and a complementary phone cover.
The device is a 5-inch display with screen resolution of 720p, it is made of plastic with removable back cover. The display is not bad for a budget phone.
Design and interface is different from the Boom J8, obviously not HiOS: both exhibit the form we are used to on TECNO devices except for a few borrowings from the Interface on the J8.
Navigation keys are on the screen while the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side of the phone.
Speaker grill is at the back of the phone and its so wide, taking over half of the whole length of the phone so you expect a loud music.
This device runs on Android Marshmallow, obviously the first and its quite questionable why TECNO had to bump this budget phone with the latest Android OS instead of the Boom J8 which is higher on the rungs. Well this could be an indication that the coming devices will run Marshmallow, however we will wait till the next Camon is out.
The rear camera is 8MP with a flash while the front is a 2MP shooter, camera quality is what you obviously get from a budget phone.
Internal memory is 16GB but you have access to 10.GB out of the box, thankfully memory can be expanded with a memory card. RAM size is 1GB and I am not sure if this will be able to do so much considering the fact that people want to do so much with their devices.
Anyway that’s it about the unboxing and quick review; I still can’t stop wondering why this device came with the Marshmallow version of the Android OS and the Boom J8 had the Lollipop OS.
It really leaves one with questions and thoughts that only the guys at TECNO can provide answers to.
