Tesla is once again facing trouble with the Cybertruck and this time, it’s not because of controversial paint jobs or social media drama. The company has reportedly stopped delivering the electric pickup due to an issue with parts of the trim (those are the decorative pieces along the truck’s roof and edges) coming loose or falling off.
According to reports from the Cybertruck Owners Forum and Electrek, some Tesla service representatives have told waiting customers that their vehicles are under a “containment hold.” That basically means Tesla is holding off on deliveries until a quality issue is fixed.
What’s Going Wrong?
While Tesla hasn’t officially said what the problem is, leaked messages between a customer and a Tesla service rep mention the “cantrail.” This is the trim piece that covers the area just above the truck’s doors. It’s supposed to sit flush and be securely attached, but some complaints suggest it might be poorly glued and coming off too easily and even flying off while driving.
This is not the first time Tesla has had issues with Cybertruck trim. In 2023, the company recalled over 11,000 trucks because of similar trim problems in the trunk area.
How Long Will the Delay Last?
It’s unclear how long Tesla will keep deliveries on pause. Some reports suggest the fix could take several weeks. The delay depends on how serious and widespread the trim issue is.
Tesla hasn’t shared an official timeline yet, so customers will have to wait for more updates from the company.
The Cybertruck’s road since launch hasn’t been smooth. While it officially launched in December 2023, the electric truck has already had seven recalls. Issues have ranged from loose parts to software glitches.
Tesla has sold around 40,000 Cybertrucks so far, even though over 1 million people have placed reservations. There have also been reports of unsold Cybertrucks sitting in used car lots and not a great look for a brand-new vehicle.
Last year, Tesla even told some factory workers at its Austin, Texas plant to stay home for three days, possibly due to production slowdowns.
Tesla is trying to fix the Cybertruck’s latest quality problem before it gets worse. For now, new owners will need to be patient while the company sorts things out.
