Users of the online savings platform PiggyVest have been uneasy since Monday, after seeing an online report alleging that PiggyVest lost a whooping N2 billion in a ‘scam’ investment deal involving a micro-lending company called Imagine Global Solutions Limited.
The users took to Twitter to vent their paranoia and frustration, hoping that their hard-earned savings are still intact.
To allay this fear, PiggyVest issued a statement assuring its users that their monies are safe, also adding that they will never compromise their funds.
“Please ignore any news about PiggyVest losing customer funds to IMG,” the statement reads.
“No PiggyVest customer funds are in “IMG”. Customer funds are only invested in asset-backed instruments like commercial papers, bonds, fixed income notes, etc.
“With over N250 billion returned successfully to customers, PiggyVest has never and will never compromise the funds of any customer in any way. All PiggyVest customer funds remain safe and secure as always.”
The Truth About Imagine Global Solutions Limited
Imagine Global Solutions Limited is a microfinance institution founded by Bamise Ajetumobi and his wife Elizabeth Ajetunmobi, to promote financial inclusion by providing capital funding to market men and women.
The company claims to be duly registered and licensed in Nigeria, but how shocking, a recent report by TheCable, showed that it is not listed among licenced microfinance institutions by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Before this finding, Imagine Global Solutions Limited has been receiving a minimum of N100 million investment from investors with an interest rate of 6% to 36% depending on the capital amount paid monthly or as agreed. It has also been offering small loans between 10k-100k to unbanked, small and medium scale businesses for 30-40 days.
According to a whistleblower @_trapselena_ on Twitter, Bamise and Elizabeth Ajetunmobi are on the run.
“Just like MMM, Muyiwa and Glory Osei, MBA, etc, another financial fraud couple have struck again. Nigerians will never learn.” @_trapselena_ tweeted.
Locating the fraudulent couple has proved abortive as there’s been no trace. Even in the United States where it’s said they’re hiding have yielded no result.
They are also alleged to own property in Dubai and the UK, as well as citizenship to Antigua and Barbuda alongside their two kids. “For the past couple of months, investors have neither seen their money nor heard from them,” @_trapselena_ tweeted.
@_trapselena_ also tweeted that the wife, Elizabeth Ajetunmobi is one of the active members of Naija Brand Chic, a popular entrepreneur brand making waves on Instagram. She also owns a domestic staff hiring platform.
Currently, the total amount from people who’ve indicated to be defrauded by the couple sums 22 billion Naira and more are still laying their complaints. There are also plans to involve the EFCC and Interpol in arresting the couple.
