TikTok Android downloads are now available directly from the company’s website. This move follows Google’s removal of the app from the Play Store last month due to a US ban. Android users in the US can now download or update TikTok without relying on official app stores.
How to Download TikTok on Android
TikTok offers both the standard app and TikTok Lite, a version optimized for slower internet connections. Downloading is simple, users just need to open the file and approve its installation. The process is quick, taking about the same time as a regular Google Play update.
Unlike apps on the Play Store, TikTok is not bound by Google’s listing rules when distributing through its own website. However, TikTok assures users that the app “remains safe and secure.” The company states that Oracle and independent security inspectors continue reviewing its source code.
What About iPhone Users?
Apple does not allow sideloading in the US. iPhone users must access TikTok via a web browser while waiting for its possible return to the App Store. However, this may take time, as neither Apple nor Google has shown interest in challenging the ban.
For now, TikTok Android downloads offer US users an alternative way to keep using the app despite ongoing restrictions.
