TikTok has debuted a new feature called “Share to TikTok” that will further integrate the app with popular music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. This new capability aims to strengthen the app’s position as a major platform for music discovery and artist promotion.
With Share to TikTok, users can directly share songs, albums, playlists, and more to their TikTok feed, Stories, or direct messages. The content posted will link back to the streaming service, creating a seamless experience between TikTok and music apps.
This update comes as TikTok continues to dominate the music industry, influencing charts such as the Billboard 100 and Spotify Viral 50. According to Business Insider, over 67% of TikTok users seek out songs after hearing them on the app. The new Share to TikTok feature will enhance this trend by facilitating easy sharing and discovery.
For Spotify users, sharing is simple: tap the “Share” button or use the share icon on the “Now Playing” screen to post content to TikTok. Apple Music’s Share Sheet offers options to post a video, photo, or share music via a message. This feature includes TikTok’s popular green screen and Photo Mode tools, allowing for more creative posts.
TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, Ole Obermann, stated, “Share to TikTok takes the user experience full circle and promotes artists and tracks effectively.” The feature follows the launch of TikTok’s “Add to Music App”, which allowed users to save tracks they found on TikTok to their preferred streaming services, contributing to hundreds of millions of track saves and billions of streams.
Strengthening Partnerships and User Experience
TikTok’s new feature is designed to build partnerships with music streaming services instead of competing with them. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, had previously explored launching its own streaming service, TikTok Music, but later ceased these efforts. The focus has now shifted to enhancing collaboration with streaming platforms.
“We already know that creative expression is at the core of the TikTok user experience,” said Lindsey Kelt Zikry, TikTok’s Global Product Partnerships Lead. “‘Share to TikTok’ integration enables seamless content sharing, expanding opportunities for users, artists, and creators.”
This move may also ease competition concerns from streaming giants, as TikTok will now actively direct traffic between its app and music services. Meanwhile, Spotify has expanded its social reach by adding similar features to Instagram and maintaining integrations with platforms like Snapchat and X.
With the introduction of “Share to TikTok”, the short-form video giant continues to play a pivotal role in how music is shared, discovered, and promoted.
