Twitter is down but DMs are working

And it is not only in Nigeria.

Minutes ago, Twitter users realized they were unable to post or see tweets on their Twitter timelines. Many had begun suggesting it could be the Nigerian government’s action as #EndSARS protests have made Nigeria the cynosure of all eyes in the past week from tweets shared by protesters across the country demanding an end to police brutality. Upon further scrutiny however, it turns out the downtime is not affecting just Nigerian Twitter users but is in fact a global outage.

According to Variety, a company rep said, “We know people are having trouble tweeting and using Twitter, we’re working to fix this issue as quickly as possible. We’ll share more when we have it and tweet from @TwitterSupport when we can – stay tuned.” In the mean time, Twitter DMs are still functioning as people can send and receive direct messages but the timeline is not loading new tweets. Some users also claim they can view trends and watch videos but majority are stuck with non-responsive profiles at the moment. Yesterday, Jack Dorsey tweeted #EndSARS and there were talks about town that he was meddling into an issue between Nigeria and her citizens.
