Twitter Safety Mode now available to more users, To reduce pro-Russia content visibility

Twitter understands that it’s users must be safe while on its platform that’s why it has released Twitter Safety Mode to more users.

Most of the harassment experienced on the internet is seen on social media platforms like Twitter. To curb these frequent happenings, Twitter introduced a new feature to a selected number of users for testing in 2021.

A recent survey conducted in the United States showed that 35% of people have been called offensive names and 26% have been embarrassed while online. This goes without saying that web surfers and app users the world over have faced online harassment at one point or the other.

A New Feature On Twitter To Ensure user Safety

Twitter Safety Mode

As mentioned earlier, Twitter introduced a feature called Twitter Safety Mode in 2021. This feature is designed to aid the twitter community in getting rid of users who tweet in vulgar language. Twitter’s Safety Mode feature also aims at cutting down unwanted and tacky tweets.

How does it work?

What this feature does is temporarily block off any account that uses harmful language while tweeting or replying to a tweet. It does not end in just using harmful language, also repetitive unwanted mentioning or tagging. The system is designed to mark the accounts you follow and constantly interact with but these accounts will not be auto blocked. Autoblocking an account will mean that the user will not have access to your account or any of your tweets. This is aimed at keeping you away from any potential predators on Twitter.

It is important to note that this feature is still in its early stage, there might be mistakes in its determining of harmful users. Considering this fact, Twitter will allow you to have access to the list of accounts it autoblocked, and you have full control over this list.

This feature is now getting to more regions and more accounts will have access to use the safety mode.

Also, following the Russia-Ukraine disaster, Twitter announced it will be cracking down on state owned or state allied media in Russia by reducing visibility to their tweets.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s youngest cabinet minister, Mykhailo Fedorov affirms that Twitter is a part of their war effort. “… Twitter has become an efficient tool that we are using to counter Russian military aggression. It’s our smart and peaceful tool to destroy Russian economy,” he tweeted.
