Two Third of Sony US retails stores set to shut down

Sony
[dropcap type=”2″]T[/dropcap]he popular electronic brand Sony has had retails stores for more than 10 years in the United States, these stores known as Sony style stores have their lifestyle stores designed to showcase products and not sell them. Now years later Sony is looking for ways to reduce its size and possible liabilities even after a rebranding few years back by closing twenty out of its thirty retail stores . As part of the company’s restructuring procedure as stated by Sony Electronics President Mike Fasulo he said in a statement that the moves were “extremely tough” but were necessary to position the company for future growth. [pull_quote_center]The closings would affect 20 Sony Stores in several states, including five in California and two in Virginia. It is keeping open 11 Sony Stores including its flagship store in New York, and several stores in California[/pull_quote_center]

This new move has been put in place to give Sony a more competitive edge by closing twenty out of its thirty one retails stores while the other 11 stores are located near major markets. The unprofitable divisions are being cut off by this move to stabilize the business profits and finely channel energy into appropriate channels. In the last 2 years, the company erased over 12,000 positions and with this present downsizing, an additional 5,000 jobs are set to be lost.

The closings would affect 20 Sony Stores in several states, including five in California and two in Virginia. It is keeping open 11 Sony Stores including its flagship store in New York, and several stores in California, New York and Florida. Even the parent company of Sony music the second largest music company, Sony Corp is facing some economic challenges since the past year and has been directed to round off on its holding in the entertainment aspect.

This is a massive impact on many employees of Sony, it is rather bitter sweet experience while a company is restructuring to increase profit as they stated, and some people are permanently being laid off their jobs. I choose to see a better mutual way to make this happen but this decision cannot be reversed by Sony.
