Yup! Apparently, Uber’s decision to make a 40% reduction in their price is affecting their drivers. Uh…what did you expect? Of course it was going to affect their drivers.
Because of this change, they have decided to go on strike. According to a post on IG by @olorisupergal, the Uber drivers wrote a letter to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, requesting for permission to embark on a peaceful protest. In the letter, it was stated that the drivers are no longer making profit from the business as the cost of fuel and car maintenance are too high.
Well, I guess Uber drivers are not the only ones facing this struggle as this morning, I took a Taxify ride and the driver kept complaining about the price reduction. All I could do was put on a sad face and try to empathize with him. He even mentioned that drivers were gradually pulling out of the Uber/Taxify business because it was no longer bringing the profit they were expecting.
Is this the beginning of the end of Uber/Taxify? And can newer cab hailing apps learn from these happenings?
