The governmental crackdown on Huawei technology continues and has now led to its removal from UK network carriers. Companies in the UK may need to get rid of any Huawei technology they use before 2023. Failure to comply will attract a £100,000 daily fine says the Home office.
The UK ban on Huawei was placed two years ago, and its deadline for removal is 2023. The fact, however, remains that removing Huawei technology from already standing products will be a tough ask. This is because before the ban, Huawei technology was everywhere and in about every industry leveraging tech.
Huawei’s business and product offering encompasses mobile, automobile, cloud, software, as well as ICT infrastructures. With the wide adoption of 5G networks, Huawei became a major supplier of 5G technology in the UK before the ban.
Now, companies using Huawei technology on their 5G equipment are to rip it off. This government requirement is not going well with some UK carriers. One company struggling with this directive is BT Group, a telecommunication company in the UK.
BT has requested more time to be able to entirely rip off the Chinese tech giants technology from its gears. The company expresses concern about not interrupting the network of their customers. Currently, the company has begun switching its customers from Huawei 5G to that Ericsson. The switch will take time, but a rush might affect BT’s customers and business.
