Western Digital (WD) is not a newbie in the business of manufacturing Solid State Drives (SSD) even though they are popularly known for their presence in producing both internal and external Hard Drives. One of the quality external hard drive in WD’s portfolio is the WD My Passport.
Among the many SSD from Western Digital is the 240GB WD Green SSD, an affordable solid state drive that increases the efficiency of PCs.
First we look into the content of the pack and what we have is the SSD and a warranty guide
The SSD has a simple design, plastic build with rectangular shape ad sharp edges. The top sticker is the WD logo and the storage capacity while the sticker at the back has info as seen in the image below. There are also 4 screw holes at the back and the sides respectively in case the SSD needs to be screwed to a part on the computer.
We then proceed to install the SSD as the primary boot drive on a laptop and then put it to a test. Installation of the SSD took about 6 minutes while the Windows boot up time was faster at 23 seconds as compared to 56 seconds previously experienced on the laptop before the SSD was mounted.
After installation, the approximate space available was 224GB.
The file transfer speeds are far above average with better improvement. Sequential read speed of the WD Green SSD is clocked at 545MB/s while write speed clocked at 458MB/s. The write and read speed enabled the laptop work more efficiently; large files were also processed and transferred in shorter duration while gaming session was fun with no stuttering.
App installation and opening time was also shorter as it took just 5 seconds to open Microsoft Word compared to the 48 seconds duration it took before the SSD was installed.
After the installation and testing, we believe that the WD Green SSD is a great choice when trying to purchase a less expensive SSD to upgrade the performance of your laptop or Desktop computer as it delivers tremendous performance and a faster response rate.
