WhatsApp update seems to be the latest surprise for Android users. After being acquired by Facebook for the sum of $19 Billion, the application has received an update to a new version v2.11.169.
This update is available on WhatsApp website and is not currently available in the Google Play Store, but it should come pretty soon. These new options are can be accessed under Settings -> Account -> Privacy. Many people have always wondered why WhatsApp didn’t have a Privacy section under settings till now.
The app now allows you select the people who can see your ‘Last seen’, profile photo and status message. You have the option to set it as everyone, my contacts or no one.
- Everyone: anyone who has your phone number and has you as a WhatsApp contact will be able to see it.
- My Contacts: only the contacts whose phone number you have and who appear in your contact list will see it.
- Nobody: just you.
People will still be able to know if you are online, but once you close the app, they won’t see the ‘Last Seen’ time below your name
The update also brings several other features on board, including improved mute functionality, ability to pay for a friend for his/her WhatsApp subscription for one, three or five years and pay it using Google Wallet, PayPal or any other linked payment method, and lastly, the removal of notification options for broadcast messages.
You can download the APK file of the WhatsApp update from the official website and install it on your device
