According to reports on a German Apple blog Macerkopf, popular instant messaging app Whatsapp may be planning to add video call support to its services soon.
The blog claims that Whatsapp is working on the feature and also provided leaked images of the video calling function
Whatsapp recently added the voice call feature and this has gone mainstream, the addition of the video calling function is a big step ahead of the close competition, Blackberry messenger (BBM) which recently got updates that foster better user/content interaction and engagement.
From the leaked images, the UI still remains consistent with Whatsapp voice calling except the addition of an option to switch between the front and rear camera or to mute the microphone.
In addition to the Whatsapp video call feature, the app may also introduce the multiple browser tabs that open next to each other (as seen on Browser tabs). This will will enable multiple chats open next to each other as tabs and you can easily toggle between individual chat instead of returning to the chat list to switch between chats.
Given that there are a number of video-based services available already, however we think that video call on Whatsapp will receive a huge acceptance following the adoption of the voice call service.
Interesting.. Would see how this plays out with the competition
