Spotting a stunning metal and glass design with a width of only 5.1mm, the Wiko Highway Pure is an incredibly thin mid-range smartphone that is a beauty to behold. But is its beauty all it’s got going for it? Let’s find out.
DESIGN/DISPLAY
The Wiko Highway Pure is a single SIM, 4.8 inch device. It has a metal and glass body, with both the front and rear sides covered in Gorilla Glass 3 bordered by an aluminum frame. Although the presence of the glass at the back of the device adds to its beauty, it also has the unpleasant tendency to show up fingerprints.
On the sides of the device are the power button and volume rocker and at the bottom are the audio jack and micro-USB connector/charging port. Turning on the device you see that there are two relatively large bezels at the top and bottom respectively so that the display only covers about 66% of the front.
The Highway Pure is 5.1mm thick and weighs only 98g. These features make the device one of the thinnest and lightest smartphones in the market. The device also has a display of 720 x 1280 pixels and 306 ppi pixel density combined with an AMOLED screen.
CAMERA
The device has an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash which can capture up to 3264×2448 pixels and a front camera with a 5 MP lens which can capture up to 720p@30fps. Both cameras feature geo-tagging and face-detection functions.
Pictures taken with the Highway Pure under good lighting conditions are pretty bright. However but under poor lightening conditions neither the rear nor front camera seem to do very well. However it’s interesting to note that while using the camera menu, users can adjust almost all aspects of the camera thus giving more room to get the best shots possible.
SOFTWARE/USER INTERFACE
The Highway Pure runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. Aside from coming without an apps drawer, the device comes with Magic Unlock function which allows users access 5 specific apps by drawing a letter over the screen while it is locked.
Unlike some other Android smartphones like the Asus Zenfone Selfie which allows you customize the alphabets you use to unlock any of your apps, the Highway Pure comes with 5 predetermined apps, each with its own pre-programmed letter.
STORAGE/PERFORMANCE/BATTERY
The Highway Pure comes with 16 GB of internal storage and it is not expandable with the use of a micro SD card.
With regards to performance, the device comes with 2 GB of RAM, a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and the Adreno 306 GPU. We did not notice any lags while using it but considering that it only has 2GB of RAM you can expect to have some lags during heavy gaming on the device.
The overall multimedia experience on the device is also really good especially as its ear piece produces really good quality sound.
The Highway Pure comes with a non-removable 2000mAh battery which doesn’t last for up to a day with heavy usage. The device also does not come with a fast charging functionality hence it takes about 2 hours 30minutes to charge from zero to a 100%.
Waiting for over two hours for a full battery no be beans sha. I don’t have such Patience. And with no expandable option for space, leaves the user helpless as regards space, that’s not fair na. Lol.
