Windows 10 Update: 3 exciting features to look out for

Windows 10 update will roll out in two days and there has been lots of expectations. Asides from making the new OS free, Windows 10 comes with a number of features that make it very attractive and we are quite excited about these three.

Enhanced look with Hero desktop

For quite a while now, billions of consumers have asked for an instantly iconic desktop and now, Microsoft is set to deliver this with Windows10. To do this, they drew inspiration from a number of components including the creative team who worked closely with the engineers to ensure that all the breakthrough features (i.e. Cortana, Microsoft Edge, etc.) of Windows 10 were encompassed in the image, as well as provided a good representation of what consumers relate to when using Windows.

With Windows 10, users are likely to get the feel of a Windows 7 desktop and UI but with more depth and emotion. It also has a feel of the Windows 1.0, 3.1, 95, XP and Windows 7. This is visible in the color palate and focus on the window pane elements of the desktop image.

The Windows 10 image will be showcased on the log-in screen in a slightly muted tone and brighten as users are logged into their personal desktop.

Eases user access with action centre

Windows 10 has a new notifications panel where all th former charms are contained. This notifications panel is called the Action Centre which is launched from the system tray and displays a full eight bar on the right screen when launched.

A raft of individual settings called Quick Actions, is located at the bottom of the Center and are quitet familiar with iOS and Android users. Users can also get to Settings here as an alternative to the Start menu, as well as switch into Tablet mode. There is also now a Note feature for instantly launching OneNote. Other features which can be connected from the action centre include, Bluetooth speakers and the quiet hours which allows you to banish notifications when you don’t want to be disturbed.

From the Settings, you can select which of these Quick Actions appear in the Action Center as well as which apps can send you Notifications. When notifications appear, you can swipe them away on touch, flick them with the mouse or just click the X to close. There is a Clear All option, too while Pop-up notifications appear in the bottom-right as opposed to the top-right in Windows 8.

Simplifies navigation with the new file explorer

The new file explorer that comes with Windows 10 allows users to pin and unpin any folders they want to regularly access through the Quick Access area. . In the ‘home’ screen of File Explorer you can also see Frequent Folders and Recent Files.

There are a lot more file operations that you can access on the ribbon at the top of the window without the need to use the right-click menu. You can also choose to email a file straight from the File Explorer window or add it to a zip file. One Drive is also incorporated within File Explorer and also an integral part of Windows 10.
