The Xperia Z1 has been flashed by Sony at the IFA press conference in Berlin. This new release by Sony also marks a water proof feature and a massive increase on the camera front. Its standout features are a high-resolution lens built into the camera, and the option of controlling attachable lenses from the phone’s 5-inch screen.
The 5” Xperia Z1 is the latest addition to Sony’s premium Z series of products. It sports a 20.7- megapixel camera with the company’s ‘G Lens’, a 27mm wide angle with a custom made large 1/2.3-type image sensor.
The Xperia Z1 is completely waterproof. It can be submerged in water to a depth of 1.5metres for up to 30 minutes. It packs a 20.7MP rear-facing camera as compared to its predecessor which features a 13.1MP camera. Sony claims that the 3 times “clear image zoom” delivers “zero distortion”.
The design of the Z1 is strikingly similar to the Xperia Z. The sleek Xperia branding is still at the back as with the previous. The camera lens is at the top-left corner and the large power button on the right edge is still present. One difference is an aluminum band which wraps around the edge of the Xperia Z1 which Sony claims makes it stronger and more comfortable to hold. The headphone slot of the Z1 is made waterproof, so there’s no need of the flap as like the previous.
The display resolution is a 5-inch 1920 by 1080 pixels with a SUPER AMOLED screen delivers full HD picture and video with the BRAVIA Technology.
Sony intends to preload a series of camera apps on to the software side of the Z1 to extend its camera functionalities – including Social Life, a camera streaming app to broadcast what’s going on around to Facebook; a Timeshift burst mode to take multiple images so you can choose the best shot from several; a visual search app called Info-Eye to get more info on snapped products/landmarks; and a boosted reality. They announced that they already have a talented group of app developers working hard to extend the camera capabilities.
The Xperia Z1 runs Android 4.2.2 JellyBean at launch. It’s got a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. With a 2GB RAM, expandable 16GB internal storage and a 3000mAh battery (which we don’t know how durable it is yet), this latest release from Sony gives more than just an impression.
With these few improved features, the Xperia Z1 definitely spots the comfortable, luxurious, appealing and durable look.
