YouTube Launches AI Tool to Help Creators Generate Copyright-Free Music

YouTube is introducing a new AI-powered feature called “Music assistant” that helps creators generate free instrumental tracks for their videos without the risk of copyright claims. The tool is now rolling out in the Creator Music beta section, giving users a faster, simpler way to find background music tailored to their content.

How the Music Assistant Works

The feature was showcased in a recent video on YouTube’s Creator Insider channel. In the demo, host Lauren walks through the Music assistant tab, where users can type prompts like:

“Give me uplifting and motivational music for a workout montage.”

The AI tool then generates multiple original tracks based on the request. Creators can preview the options, download their favorites, and add them directly into their video editing process.

The best part? The tracks are free to use and copyright-safe, giving creators peace of mind when publishing their content.

Part of YouTube’s Broader AI Music Push

This isn’t YouTube’s first step into AI music. Other recent experiments include:

  • Music Remixer: Restyle popular songs to use in YouTube Shorts.
  • Dream Track: Powered by Google DeepMind’s Lyria model, it lets users hum a melody and transform it into a full track in the style of real artists like T-Pain.

YouTube’s move follows similar efforts from other tech companies like Stability AI, Meta, and Google, who are also building tools that generate music and sound effects from text prompts using AI models like AudioCraft, MusicGen, and diffusion models.

When Can You Try It?

YouTube says Music assistant is being gradually rolled out to users who already have access to Creator Music. While it’s still in beta, the tool promises to make it easier for creators to enhance their videos with custom-fit soundtracks, all while staying compliant with YouTube’s copyright policies.
